86 | National Champions, Big Bowls Debates & A World Open
Episode 8 - National Champions, Big Bowls Debates & A World Open
Episode 86 of What A Load of Bowls is here, and Simon and DJ are back with another packed episode of bowls news, coaching advice, plenty of opinions and their usual dose of banter!
With Episode 86 matching the year both hosts were born, DJ kicks things off with a special 1986 trivia quiz. But how much do the boys actually remember about their birth year?
In Around the Greens, the boys recap the Australian National Championships, celebrate the standout performances of NSW and the national champions, discuss the opening rounds of Melbourne Premier League and preview the upcoming Bowls Premier League at Ocean Grove.
In Coach's Corner, Simon shares practical advice on reading unfamiliar rinks and avoiding slow starts, including a simple training exercise designed to help bowlers settle into matches quicker. The boys also tackle an important question: Are we making lawn bowls too complicated for new players?
Plus, Simon puts DJ on the spot with some quick-fire bowls questions, sparking debates about world-class leads versus skips, singles titles, practice habits and what really makes a top bowler.
Finally, the boys discuss the newly announced World Bowls Open in South Australia and what events like this could mean for the continued growth of our sport.
Another entertaining episode with plenty to think about, a few laughs and lots of bowls!
